FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions.
Male or Female?
We do not see a clear correspondence to temperament due to sex of the puppy as long as they are spayed or neutered at an early age. Speak with your vet about the best time to have them fixed.
Spay/neuter should be done as
soon as your vet will allow it to be done. This will guarantee that the
marking behavior will never become an issue. Yes, a female dog may mark
just like a male if she is not fixed. It is not as common, but it can happen.
Temperament differences are more obvious in puppies that are not fixed, and are allowed to mature with their natural sex hormones unaltered.
Males can tend to potty train quicker, and can be a bit
more calm in temperament. We do notice that males are generally more handsome, but not always.
Females generally end up smaller, but certainly not always.
F1, F1b, F2, multi generational...What's the difference?
Please read this note about the genetic designation for cockapoo puppies. First of all, I want to stress
that all of our breeding dogs must pass dna tests that clear them for
producing puppies that do not have the genetic disease and defects that
can crop up out of otherwise healthy, non-tested parents!
Our
first generation puppies - F1 are bred from a pure cocker
spaniel and a
pure poodle parent. It is important to note that there are different
sizes within the poodle breed (very small to very large!), and two
different types of cocker spaniel (english and american). We use mini,
sized poodles because of their superior temperament and medium
build. Our cocker spaniels are only american, most with champion
lineage which translates to your cockapoo pup being well
formed, structurally sound, with a plush coat. Our F1b cockapoo puppies are bred from a pure poodle parent and a
cockapoo parent.
Many people love our F1b
puppies because they are the ones that are not only non-shed, but are
even more hypo allergenic than other generations of cockapoo puppies!
This is a great benefit to people who are worried about dog allergies.
(Remember to consult you physician before purchasing any dog or puppy if
allergies are a concern!)
Our multi generational cockapoos are bred from two dna tested cockapoos.
Since
many F2 cockapoo puppies have shedding coats, we do not breed the F2
cockapoos. Many breeders will tell you to only to purchase a F1
cockapoo puppy. This is because there are cockapoo breeders who breed
shedding cockapoos. In fact, if the parents are not tested for
coat quality, an F1 cockapoo could possibly shed as well! This is why
it is good to purchase from a breeder who does dna testing for coat
quality as well as for health.
All of our multi generational
puppies have at least one multi generational parent which has a dna'd
non-shed coat just like our poodles. This is important because most
people looking for a cockapoo puppy are wanting a non-shed coat.
So
why do we breed multi generational cockapoos? It is because of the
amazing quality we achieve through our breeding methods. Much like the
f1b, these pups have lower dander counts than the F1 cockapoo has. This
is good news for allergy sufferers.
We
have for years selected champion line AKC American Cocker Spaniels with
great temperaments, and non-shed AKC Mini Poodles for our breedings.
This produces amazing plush, non-shed coats in our multi gen cockapoos,
as well as excellent temperaments, and structure that we are not seeing
many other breeders achieve.
Our multi generational cockapoos are bred from two dna tested cockapoos.
We have sold our multi gen
cockapoos to many well known breeders in the doodle world to be bred
into their golden doodles, labradoodles and cobber-dogs! These breeders
as seeing excellent results in quality and smaller, medium sizes for
their puppies!
Since
many F2 cockapoo puppies have shedding coats, we do not breed the F2
cockapoos. Many breeders will tell you to only to purchase a F1
cockapoo puppy. This is because there are cockapoo breeders who breed
f2 cockapoos, some of which (not all) are shedding cockapoos. This is usually unavoidable in the F2 generation. In fact any generation of cockapoo could possibly shed if the breeder has not tested the puppy's parents to make sure the union will only produce non-shedding pups! This is why
it is good to purchase from a breeder who does dna testing for coat
quality as well as for health.
